The RAF Squadronaires

World famous band the Royal Air Force Squadronaires* will be making a flying visit to Ashbourne, for a charity concert that will raise vital funds for the town.

The UK’s premier military jazz ensemble is taking to the stage at QEGS, on Saturday, 15 October. Starting at 7.30pm, the evening will see the band, with guest vocal trio The Honeybirds, pay tribute to the great Big Bands and singers of the 1940’s and 50’s.

Alongside charts from the Andrews Sisters, Count Basie, Glenn Miller, and the band’s frequent collaborators the USAF Airmen of Note, will be numbers from the band’s own library - from its formation during WWII, to their more recent commissions for the RBL Festival of Remembrance. As well as 1940’s/50’s music, the concert will include a celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Year. You might even like to get in the mood by dressing in 1940’s/50’s clothing!

A bar serving drinks and snacks will be available on the night and there will also be a fundraising raffle. Proceeds from the event will be shared between Ashbourne Methodist Church’s Link Project and the Ashbourne Branch of the Royal British Legion.

*The Band plays by permission of the Air Force Board of the Defence Council.
